One of the greatest names in the history of heavy metal music, Ozzy Osbourne, has had a DNA test- and for good reason. Ozzy himself has questioned how he has made it to his current age considering a life of indulgence, including excessive drinking and drug use- his state of health is considerably good!!
The genome sequencing company Knome, based in the US, has undertaken the task of analyzing Ozzy’s DNA.
An Ancestry Test
The first thing was to determine the ancestry of the singer often known as The Prince of Darkness through DNA testing. His DNA showed that Ozzy is a descendant of the primitive caveman known as the Neanderthal man. There is more, he also has ancestry in the ancient Romans and Russian royalty- in fact, Ozzy is related to the Tzars of Russia.
Ozzy had earlier last year given a blood sample to be analysed for the DNA test. The professor at Harvard who undertook the research was driven by the need to explain how the singer’s body had so well endured years of abuse which would have caused the body of most other people to perish under the strain. Ozzy himself admits his surprise at how he has made it this far- to the age of 61.
How Osbourne has survived this long
The genome sequencing in Ozzy Osbourne’s has found a variant of a gene which helps the body break down alcohol. In Ozzy’s case, this special variant of the gene makes the heavy metal star’s body more able at breaking down large quantities of alcohol- according to the singer, several bottles of brandy a night. Most of us, would not make it to the age of 50 with a life style like the one led by Osbourne.
Ozzy Osbourne’s DNA test took over 3 months to complete and a cost of tens of thousands of dollars.
